Freak Of The Week: Guerrilla Marketing Man

Mama loves me some guerilla marketing.  Especially when it's on wheels.  Whether it's Angeline with her unmistakable pink Corvette, or the freaks that wrap their cars like a billboard– there's no better way to get your message out there than to plaster it on a vehicle and drive past a few thousand people. That's something we know and embrace here in LA.  But this week's freak comes to us from NYC.

This spring, during the city's biggest furniture fair, I saw something in front of the Javitz Center that I'm having a hard time forgetting:

What a great idea!  Who wants to shell out five figures to the Port Authority and stand awkwardly in a trade show booth all day?  This dude snubbed all of that & took his product to the streets! Much to the dismay of the show organizers: note the thugs in black suits hovering over their cell phones trying to figure out how to eject him asap. But this freak don't care:

I mean, who doesn't love a little limo ala Mad Max? And I've secretly always wondered what the Barney Rubble's boyfriend would wear.  The one problem is that while he gave us all a laugh and added some levity to our Monday afternoon, what exactly was he selling?

There was a table on top of the limo, but that's neither here nor there.

Regardless of what the sales results say, he still gets 10 points from me. Because it's brave enough to put your product out there, but to put your abs, nipples and favorite headdress out there too?  That takes a big pair of…boots.

Which is why he's our Freak Of The Week.
