So many of you tell me all of the time, “I’m so bored with cars.” The (valid) complaints continue, “They used to be fun! They used to be cool! Now they’re just computers.” And you’re not entirely wrong. So when I find an exception to this trend, there is nothing I’d rather do than tell YOU about it. The Maserati Gran Cabrio Folgore is one of those cars.
But Mama, Maserati, Really?
I know what you’re thinking. I thought it too. When we ponder groundbreaking concepts, technology, and design here in 2025, the Maserati brand doesn’t make the short list. Sure, Maserati makes beautiful cars; there is undeniable performance, and those exhaust sounds can wake the dead. But in terms of “firsts”, Maserati isn’t on anyone’s bingo card. Until now.
Enter The 2025 Maserati Gran Cabrio Folgore: The World’s Fastest Convertible EV
I know that’s a lot to swallow. It sounds like an artificial superlative. Like being valedictorian of your homeschool graduating class. But that doesn’t mean it’s not significant. Consider this:
Why do people drive convertibles? To blow-dry their hair? Get a sunburn? No, they want to feel the air, smell the smells, and commune with nature.
The fact remains: EV exhaust is cleaner than gas-powered exhaust.
Just Think Of The Upsides:
Maybe you don’t care about exhaust smells. (If you honestly don’t, I’ve got about 3 sh*tboxes in my driveway to sell you.) Perhaps the environment isn’t a part of your particular existential crisis. Here are a few more EV facts to consider outside of performance:
- A ride so smooth, it’s like driving on butter.
- EV-powered adaptive cruise control means zero friction, the ultimate GT experience.
- No exhaust means your audio rules
- Optional exhaust sounds make conversing an actual thing
Let’s Go For A Drive!
Since I can’t create a blog post in 3D, watch this video instead. Because if we were to spend 30 minutes in this car together, we’d have to blowtorch the smiles off our faces. Check it out:
Maserati Folgore Speed: Hold On To Your Toupee!
If I didn’t win you over with the EV stuff, the design, or the upsides, let me speak to your inner Andretti. This thing is fast. So fast, I scared myself–which is rare. Here are the delicious stats:
- Zero- 60 mph: 2.6 seconds
- Horsepower 818
- Torque 995 lb ft
- 800V Tri-motor System
- All Wheel Drive
- Adaptive Air Suspension
- Drive Modes: Max Range, GT, Sport, Corsa
- Launch Control

What The Numbers Don’t Tell You
The part that’s difficult to put into words is how all of this comes together. Of course, accelerating from 0-60 in under three seconds is always thrilling, but these days, it’s what happens afterwards that matters. The GranCabrio Folgore is a GT, so it’s not all about speed. What Maserati offers with this car is a smooth, balanced, and joyful experience that frankly threw me for a loop; it was truly exceptional.
- Air Suspension: it’s expensive, it’s exclusive, and it’s the sh*t
- Exhaust Notes: No, they’re not real, but that doesn’t make them rad. For maximum enjoyment, drop that top!
- Throttle Response: it’s like the perfect man—not too sensitive and does precisely what Mama wants with zero gap between instruction and execution. Sigh…
- A Remarkably Visceral Driving Experience: Between the sounds, vibrations, and even downshifts, it grabbed me from the first turn.
Let’s Consider The Competitors (Or Not)
Ok, Mama. That’s fine, but what about _______? Exactly.
Because Maserati is the only manufacturer making a luxury EV convertible (available in the US), the competitive set doesn’t exist. Sure, there are several great GT convertibles: the Aston Vantage Roadster, the Bentley Continental GTC, to name a few. There are also a handful of EVs built for performance people (Porsche, Lambo), but what other vehicle sits at the intersection of touring and electrification, with the top down? In this category, the Maserati Trident stands alone.
A Few More Doozies
Here are a few other things I loved about this car:
- Analog clock
- Seating for four
- Beautiful touchpoints
- Elegant execution
- Subtle, electric forward design
- Trident embossed headrests
- Gorgeous eco-leather seats
If I Could Steal Two Things:
Outside of the performance, luxury, design, and drive, there were two notable things.
- Scarf Mode—I know you don’t think you need a scarf when the top drops. But when I activate this neck-specific heating element, you will surely change your mind. I want to demand it in every car I drive.
2. Sonus Faber Sound System– If you’re new to this Italian audio brand, brace yourself. In this vehicle’s 12-speaker system, the experience is wonderfully immersive. If you’re lucky enough to sit in the backseat, like my teenage daughter, you may anoint it to “lit” status.
What This Means For Maserati
Until now, I haven’t been the biggest modern Maserati fan. Nor did I expect that Maserati would be the automaker to own the EV convertible space. But with both of these squarely at my feet, or more accurately, running through my veins after several days with the 2025 GranCabrio Folgore, well, who am I to deny it?
This daring execution leaves me genuinely excited to see what else Maserati has up their sleeve. Is this the beginning of a remarkable comeback? I sure hope so.
