If you haven’t watched Guy Ritchie’s latest series, ‘The Gentlemen’ on Netflix yet, that’s ok. But if you like gorgeous cars, beautiful clothes, and over the top English estates, trust me, you’ll love it. WARNING: there will be spoilers in this post. Here’s the series trailer to warm up your eyeballs:
Ok, if you’re still not sure that you’ll like this show, let me give you a few great reasons to watch.
A Posh Dbag Freaks In A Chicken Suit
Just when you think this series is a bunch of rich wankers who have nothing but time and money on their hands, you find out that the main character’s brother is a coke addict up to his feathers in debt.
And, of course, he uses that gun, and that sends the entire series into mayhem. Beautiful, bloody, hilarious mayhem.
‘The Gentlemen’ Is Nothing New
Based on Guy Ritchie’s 2019 film of the same name, this series is a similar world but with all new characters. Like the main dude, Theo James, who plays a rebellious and reluctant aristocrat. But when he gets behind the wheel of an Austin Healey 3000, he becomes a true gentleman.
Which Gentlemen Drives A Defender?
If you’re wondering if the blacked-out Defender belongs to our main character, his jacked-up brother, or the drug King Pin that drives the Defender, the answer is none of the above. It’s hers:
That’s Kaya Scodelario playing Susie Glass, the King Pin’s badass daughter. She is fabulous, ruthless, and beautifully dressed. We love her, we fear her, and yet we also kind of want to be her.
‘The Gentlemen’ Don’t Get The Best Cars
Nope. Sorry to break it to you. The best cars in this show belong to Mercy Moreno– the angry one with the machete. And if you think she’s just holding that for effect, you’ve got another thing coming. It’s hard to keep your eyes on the screen during her scenes because she runs a car dealership packed with Porsches, McLarens, and other things of beauty. But her business is just a front for importing Colombian drugs (which is a career I hadn’t considered– until now!)
PS–Mercy drives a GR Supra, which is weird given the other cars on her lot, but I respect it.
Of Course, They Need To Steal A Lambo
Just when you think the drug dealing game is getting soft, well, then you realize in order to save your family fortune and possibly your brother’s life, you’re gonna have to steal a Lamborghini Huracan Evo. And our man Theo is up to the task– even if there’s a guy in the trunk.
The Biggest Show Stopper in Guy Ritchie’s ‘The Gentlemen’ Is A Test Drive
One of the reasons you’ll love ‘The Gentlemen’ is how everything gets tied up at the end, yet it certainly leaves room for a second season. Among these reveals are a family secret, a new business venture, and quite possibly a change in venue. But that’s not why your mouth will drop.
The most shocking and delightful scene is when one of the main characters jumps into a McLaren for a test drive and rips it to shreds. You’ll never guess who is behind the wheel:
Watch it. Tell me you love it.
