I’ve been writing my Dude or Dbag series for over a decade, and it was rinse and repeat for many years. Ill-fitting suits, terrible hair, and always someone who tried just a little too hard to stick out and failed. However, I noticed a distinct shift in the 2024 LA Auto Show outfits. This year, for the first time, women dressed up more than men and more to the point, they did so on their terms. And not just formal wear to impress the boss or colleagues but personality-driven, badass get-ups. Let’s get into it!
Women Shine at the 2024 LA Auto Show
If I had to pick one Dude, to sum up how the auto show felt, it would be this gorgeous woman.
From the sparkly (yet comfortable) shoes to the bling from head to toe to the I-dare-you-to-ignore-me neon yellow ‘fit, this baddie was so spectacular that she made the Cybertruck look meek. Now THAT’s how you rock an auto show!
This lovely lady had a similar vibe. Her shoes are flashy but comfy, and her sweater unapologetically announces—I belong here! I’d also like to point out that this sweater (which I want) looks like something she wears often, not something that sits in the closet all year, waiting for the auto show. I just love it.
Journos Brought The Heat To the 2024 LA Auto Show
I’m so happy to see more women on camera talking about cars and bringing their style! Lyn is an excellent example. Check her out here.
I even located one of the rarest species at the auto show. The elusive, well-dressed, yet casual male journalist. Aaron Robinson displayed this Volvo-themed racing treasure with pride:
What a dude.
Of course, there were exceptions to this phenomenon.
Car Themed Clothes + Dbags = ❤️
Dressing is hard. Waking up can be a challenge as well. But when you’re bad at both and it shows, we’ve got a problem. Maybe next year, an automaker should skip the espresso bar or cocktails and consider distributing combs and mirrors. I’m just saying…
Now, here’s a guy that put in the effort. Sure, it looks like he purchased the entire ensemble at the Duty-Free Zone at LAX, but the effort was had! (slow clap)
Trying Too Hard Is Still A Thing
And you thought I would make it through this post without showing you something truly awful. Oh, ye of little faith. I’m not entirely anti-kilt, nor does a leather cowboy hat entirely offend me. But when that outfit includes hiking boots, black socks, and a hoodie, it’s undeniably douchey. Not even the comb/coffee bar can cure him.

Our Future Looks Bright
One of the best-dressed dudes at this year’s show wasn’t a journalist, an executive, or even a booth babe. It was Luis, one of my LA Career Day students at the 2024 LA Auto Show. Luis is a high school senior, bi-lingual, and wildly personable. He’s looking to work in automotive (hopefully in marketing or PR), so if you’re reading this and want to hire him, hit me up. You won’t regret it!
