If you’re married or in a long-term relationship and have eyes, you’re going to want to watch this show. Not just because ‘The Four Seasons’ is executive produced by Tina Fey, or stars Will Forte, Steve Carell, and Colman Domingo, or because it captures the complexity of marriage, but because the show’s cars are perfect. If you haven’t had the pleasure or need a refresher, here’s the show’s trailer:
It’s also worth noting that there will be spoilers in this post. So if you haven’t finished the series or didn’t binge it all in an entire night (raises hand), you may want to bookmark this post for later.
The Very Vanilla Tina Fey & Will Forte Drive A Ford Explorer
Oh calm down, you Ford Explorer drivers. I said ‘vanilla’, I didn’t say boring. But I will! JK. Honestly, I love the Ford Explorer– read my review here.
But the fact remains, for Kate and Jack, things are boring between them. No, it’s not precisely the Ford Explorer’s fault, but I can’t help but think that a snazzier ride would spice things up for their marriage. Tina, call me. I have a list.
Hey Nick, Your E30’s Showing!
At the show’s beginning, we learn that one of Nick’s most lovable qualities is his car.
That “old car” is a BMW E30 convertible. If Nick bought it in 1990 when it came out, he would’ve paid $33,000 for it, which at the time would be the equivalent of $82,500 today. So it was certainly a splurge. And now? The E30 is wildly collectible, so it’s a win no matter what. It’s also perfect casting because whether you’re a car person or not, everyone loves an E30.
Nick’s Post-Divorce Ride Is Also Perfect
After Nick and Anne’s breakup, he arrives at the next adventure in style:
(Don’t ask me why there’s no footage, I tried!) Sure, the 911 Turbo is the epitome of a mid-life crisis car for rich people. Sorry, ‘Vette. You’re the middle-class choice. Do we hate him for it? No, why? Because life is short, my friends, drive fast!
PS–in real life, Steve Carell has equally great automotive taste. He is known for driving a red on silver BMW Z8.
As for his new side piece…
What Does Ginny Drive? Let Me Know On Social
We never see Ginny drive her own car becuase, well, why should she when she can sit shotgun in his 911T? Duh. But I suspect she’s an EV driver. Something about the eco-lodge choice screams Kia EV6 to me. But I’m sure all of you have better ideas, so hit me up on social and set me straight!
High Class Gays Drive Range Rovers
I don’t know about your neighborhood, but here in LA, the fanciest gay men have Range Rovers. Of course, they do them tastefully. They’re black on black on black, with nice wheels and always clean. This is WeHo’s shopping cart of choice. Because Danny is a man who knows how to make an entrance:
We also love him for not trashing his BFF’s boring car. Oh no, he saves that for behind her back.
The Four Seasons S2: Anne’s Revenge
We never see Anne’s ride. Probably because it’s an Ford-era Volvo that she maintains methodically and has over 200,000 miles on it. Her boyfriend was even worse. That guy has dull sedan written all over him. Was I the only one rooting for a birthmark on his upper thigh to give the guy some edge? Gross.
In the following season (if you don’t think this masterpiece is getting renewed, you’re insane), I vote for featuring Anne’s Me Era, a glorious time that includes hallucinogens, a lesbian awakening with an accompanying memoir and book tour, and, of course, a stable of mid-life crisis female cars (gimme a call, Tina; I’ve got a list). Let’s just say she’ll start with a green Aston Martin.
Season Two: Lila Gets A Grip
Speaking of S2, let’s get Lila laid. That girl needs something other than her “art” to sink her energy into.
I hope she joins a throuple! That’ll be fun. Or maybe she keeps spiraling and joins a cult. Either way, I’m here for it.
Finally, Let’s Respect Our Elders
If you didn’t know already, The Four Seasons was originally an Alan Alda film from the 80s. Ask me how many times I watched it…on VHS! It was magnificent that the series included a little cameo from Alda.
Although next season, I’d love to see him behind the wheel of his car. Alda is known to drive a 26hp Trabant 601s. An East German ride that takes (wait for it) 20 seconds to go from zero to 60mph. That’s a patient man! To learn more about this wacky vehicle, watch this:
