Convince My Wife: Off Roading Is Fun!

If you’re anything like my husband, who loves to get dirty, He’s that guy with all the gear, the lifted truck, the tent, and he’s always trying to convince me to go (barf) camping. Even worse, he wants to do it all in some remote location that requires us to drive off-road. Listen, I’m never one to turn down a drive. But off-roading to a campsite? Sounds awful. However, when eBay Motors asked me to go with them in Colorado for some off-roading, I said ‘yes.’ Why? Because the only thing stronger than my desire not to go camping is my desire to be better than my husband at well..anything. So, if you’re wondering how to get your wife/partner/fiancee/significant person to embrace off-roading, follow my instructions below.

Tell Her Off-Roading Is Perfect For The Gram

How awesome are the photos from my trip? You don’t get photos like at your local wine bar, Becky. And you sure as heck aren’t getting them sitting in front of the TV. Get out there, above the smog, in the woods, on the lake—whatever it takes to get to the places where the sun shines, and your phone can capture it all.

Tell Her You’ll Make It A Three Way

One of the things that helped me feel confident behind the wheel was having an instructor. Now listen, you may not want to shell out the cash for a proper school. That’s fine–grab the person who knows a lot and is willing to share but doesn’t insist on being a dbag in the process. I know you think that’s you, and that’s adorable, but before you decide that’s a good idea, I implore you to remember the last time you tried to teach her parallel parking. We both know that left a mark.

Dan, The Man, one of my instructors on this trip.

If you want to get crazy and send her to a program, see my post here about Nena Barlow–she’s got a great school called Barlow Adventures. Plus, I’ll be interviewing one of my other instructors in an upcoming post!

Tell Your Wife Off-Roading Is Empowering

There are few things more satisfying than doing something you can’t. For me, it was driving that 1999 Jeep Cherokee up a 30% incline. It was terrifying. I was sweating. But I did it! Sure, the tires helped (Nitto Ridge Grapplers), there was a decent suspension setup (Rusty’s Off Road), and I had sliders and skid plates (Dirtbound). If your wife is the kind of woman who likes a challenge (she married you, didn’t she?), I’d honestly encourage her try it.

Tell Your Wife Off Roading Is Best In Style

Is your partner the type who doesn’t want to be without the luxuries of her daily driver? Will she miss the heated steering wheel? Is life without a seat warmer one she’s not anxious to live? Does she worry she’ll miss an episode of her favorite podcast or a chapter in her ebook? That’s ok. Because I’ve got news for her:

That’s right. That’s me taking a 2022 Porche Taycan Turbo Cross Turismo off-road. Why? Because with the right tires (Nitto Nomad Grapplers) and some sweet floor mats (Weathertech), why not? This car also had Porsche’s Tequipment Roof Racks and Rooftop Tent, which was remarkably comfortable.

Tell Her It Was My Idea

If all else fails, do what my kids do—blame me. Just show her this video and say, “Do you think that would be fun?”

And obviously, she’ll say yes! Then start at the top of this post again and take it from there. I know you can do it! If you succeed, please tag me on social. I’d love to see what you get up to! Except for the tent stuff, I don’t need to see that.

xoxo
