A few weeks ago, I went to the amazing Motor4Toys car show in Woodland Hills. Featuring over 5,000 cars and collecting over 50,000 toys for the needy, this a great event for a great cause. Not exactly the place you expect to see a Saab:
But being the greedy, selfish whore that I am, I wasn’t in it for the charity. Immediately upon arrival, I swiftly tossed my unwrapped toy into the pile and began to prowl for my own kind of gift– automotive entertainment. And, as expected, Motor4Toys delivered.
It all happened when I cornered a proud Saab 900T driver to compare Saab love/horror stories. As sweet as he was, the guy was clearly a Saab newbie– he had never hitched home from the freeway, his shirt was way too white and there was not a fire extinguisher in sight. Poor fella. As we’re talking, behind him rolls up a Saab Sonett II–which is pretty much like seeing a two-stroke Bigfoot:
Turns out, the driver is a chic (I’ll pause if you need a moment to absorb that)…… she’s a car freak & can out-Saab me any day. She makes her living making accessories for Saab enthusiasts & is currently hoping to raise enough money to drive her car cross country (with her boyfriend/mechanic as her co-pilot– did I mention she’s smart?).
(she’s not big on portraits)
Anyway, as insane as her ideas are, I think she’s fantastic. Because many of us love our cars and to turn up at a car show or write a silly blog is one thing. But to devote your life to the brand and tattoo it on your forearm is another.
You go crazy, Saab Girl! You’re my Freak of the Week!
